Project: Character Design for Bait Cup

For this project, I was brought in to redesign and elevate the visual branding for The Bassquatch Hunter: Fish Out of Water after the client was disappointed with the quality and direction provided by a previous design company. They approached me specifically because of my reputation for creating high-quality, personality-driven branding and illustration work that feels both professional and memorable.

My task was to create a custom caricature illustration of the show’s host that captured his personality, energy, and humor while integrating the existing brand identity into a cohesive visual design that could be reproduced effectively on fishing worm cups and related merchandise. Since the product itself had limited physical space and would primarily be viewed quickly in retail and outdoor environments, it was important that the artwork be bold, readable, and instantly eye-catching.

I illustrated the host in a stylized caricature approach that exaggerated his expressions and features in a fun, approachable way while still keeping him recognizable. I incorporated the existing logo typography directly into the composition so the illustration and branding worked together as one unified graphic rather than separate elements competing for attention.

The bright orange background was intentionally chosen because it matched the physical color of the worm cups themselves, allowing the printed design to feel integrated directly into the product rather than appearing like a generic sticker placed on top. This helped strengthen shelf visibility, improve production efficiency, and create a more cohesive final product.

This project highlights my ability to step into an existing brand, identify weaknesses in previous creative executions, and develop a stronger visual solution that balances illustration, branding, merchandise design, typography, and production considerations into a polished final product.

This limited-edition bait cup was created for DMF Bait Co. and features characters from my children’s book series, The Adventures of Seth Squatch. I designed the layout incorporating Seth, the Bigfoot character, and his loyal companion, Cedar, alongside DMF’s signature worm mascot — blending both worlds into a playful, adventurous design.

The result is a packaging concept that combines bold color, humor, and storytelling energy, capturing the spirit of fishing and adventure in one collectible, eye-catching piece.
