Once upon a time...I was approached to design and paint this giant fantasy storybook for an interactive children's park that's opening soon. Each page measures 8 feet by 10 feet, so every decision had to work from a distance while still rewarding kids who wanted to get up close and explore.
The client had a rough draft of the story written, but they trusted me to shape how it would be experienced. I condensed and edited the script, designed the page layouts, selected the typography, and planned all of the illustrations and decorative elements to help guide young readers through the story. Every image was placed to support the narrative while keeping the pages fun, colorful, and visually engaging for children. I even pushed the final painted version to be more vibrant than my original design comp because I knew those brighter colors would have a bigger impact in person.
Projects like this are what I love most, taking an idea and thinking through every creative decision, from storytelling and design to the final brushstroke, to create an experience people can step into.
