I made this illustration for the Dork Brigade comedy troupe and their sketch about a group of cops working in the least important department ever — the Nuisance Crime Investigation Unit B. After chatting with the writers and actors, I really got a feel for their sense of humor — that perfect mix of irony and deadpan seriousness. I wanted to capture that same energy in the artwork. The bold colors, dramatic lighting, and cinematic composition play it totally straight, even though the whole idea is ridiculous. It’s that contrast — serious style meets absurd story — that made this piece so fun to create.
